Dr
Martin Cochran is currently Assistant Professor of Music at the
University of Montevallo where he teaches applied low brass and courses
in instrumental music. Martin
has appeared as a soloist with ensembles from Wisconsin to Georgia to
the British Isles. He is in
frequent demand as a soloist and clinician throughout the United States.
His recital credits include the 2008 and 2007 International
Tuba-Euphonium Conferences, the U.S. Army Band Tuba-Euphonium
Conference, and numerous regional ITEA conferences.
Martin has also presented master classes at many universities,
including the University of North Texas, Louisiana State University, and
Western Michigan University, to name a few.
He has also appeared as a soloist with several university bands
and brass bands, including the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point
Symphonic Band, the University of Alabama Wind Ensemble, the University
of Montevallo Wind Ensemble, and the Georgia Brass Band.
Martin is also on the artist faculty of the International
Euphonium Institute at Emory University. Martin
has been successful in a variety of competitions, both as a soloist and
chamber musician. He is a
former winner of the prestigious Leonard Falcone International Euphonium
Competition and the International Tuba Euphonium Conference Solo
Competition and Mock Service Band Audition.
He has been a member of several award-winning ensembles,
including principal euphonium with the award-winning Georgia Brass Band,
and has toured with the Sotto Voce Quartet.
In addition to his performing experience, Martin has also served
as Director of the Montevallo Wind Ensemble, Assistant Conductor of the
University of Alabama Wind Ensemble and the University of
Wisconsin-Milwaukee Symphony Band and Youth Wind Ensemble Program. Martin
comes to Montevallo from the University of West Georgia, were he was
Instructor of Tuba and Euphonium. He
holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance from the University of
Alabama, and degrees in Music Education and Wind Conducting from
Louisiana State University and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
His primary teachers include Mike Dunn, Alan Baer, and Larry
Campbell.
